– Bali Overview

I have been to Bali twice before. Once in 2013 on my gap year and again in 2016 after I finished uni. Bali is a great holiday as there are so many things you can do. From visiting temples, to swimming with turtles, partying at beach clubs and playing with monkeys in the jungle, Bali has a lot to offer.

I found that the second time I went, Bali had changed a lot and these days it is a pretty popular destination for tourists so they have made it really easy to get around and for you to have a comfortable stay.

Getting There: We flew from London to Denpasar via Kuala Lumpur with a short stop over so it took about 18 hours but you can now fly direct for a bit more money. Bali is a popular route so you can often find good deals on flights.

Where Did We Go: On my most recent visit, the 16 day itinerary we decided on was:

Kuta > Ubud > Gili T > Gili Air > Nusa Lembongan > Jimbaran > Seminyak

Kuta – 1 night

Ubud – 2 nights

Gili T – 3 nights

Gili Air – 3 nights

Nusa Lembongan – 2 nights

Jimbaran – 2 nights

Seminyak – 3 nights

Accommodation: I booked all our accommodation through booking.com and even though it might sometimes be slightly more expensive than booking directly with the accommodation, I love the ease of the booking process and the reviews are super useful so I prefer to do it this way!

Getting Around: It’s super easy and pretty cheap to get around in Bali. If you are getting a taxi from the airport or around the Kuta region, make sure to get a blue bird branded taxi as these are the legitimate ones. Mini buses/minivans are an easy way to travel further between towns, you can just buy tickets from a stand at the side of the road and most of the time you don’t need to book in advance. Ferries between the islands are also pretty cheap, sometimes it is good to book these the day before if travelling in peak season as they get busy. When more inland in places like Ubud, if there are a few of you, it’s often quite cheap to pay a driver to drive you around from spot to spot. They often sit at the side of the road in town with signs advertising tours they can take you on. If you ask them, they are often happy to drive you to whichever attractions you fancy and wait for you at each one. You can negotiate a good price with them and also benefit from their knowledge of the local area!

What To Do: There are so many activities to do in Bali; hiking, waterfalls, jungle exploring, yoga, surfing, snorkelling, sunset watching and partying so you will not be short of things to do.
